According to procon.org, Kentucky, where both medicinal and recreational cannabis are illegal, grows more marijuana plants per 100,000 people than any other state. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the state of Kentucky is considering full legalization. Over 80% of voters in the state are in support of legal medical cannabis. A few sources have reported that Kentucky will lose money the longer legislation waits to pass the bill. Sales could possibly approach $800 million.

Kentucky Rep. Cluster Howard recently stated that he is working with advocates on legislation that would legalize medical marijuana use among those 21 and older. Other possible benefits would include free expungement of Kentucky residents with a marijuana misdemeanor, a major weapon against the opioid and meth epidemic, and farming opportunities. Legislators will vote on the Medical Marijuana bill in early 2020.
